This session explores design driven by human need and the ways in which Ilse Crawford addresses spaces through the senses. Her practice – Studioilse – has become well known for its focus on the experiential and emotional possibilities of design, putting value on tactility, connectivity and capturing feeling through material choices.

Ilse Crawford creates modern and emotional brands, products, interiors, buildings and furniture. In 1989, she founded British Elle Decoration, making it an international decorating bible. As Vice President of Donna Karan Home, Crawford regenerated the brand. She has since started her own company Studioilse and is also Head of Department at the celebrated Design Academy Eindhoven. She has designed environments for Soho House and Aesop and first book, Sensual Home: Liberate Your Senses and Change Your Life is considered the ideal syllabus on design for modern living.
